Producing a Lift Plan
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme that promotes best practice for commercial vehicle operations.
FORS Gold membership is the highest accolade FORS awards to its members and Anthony Robson Transport are proud to achieve this.
FORS Gold accreditation enables operators to achieve exemplary levels of best practices, encompassing all aspects of safety, efficiency and environmental protection for the client.
We have been a proud member of FORS since 2011. Through the introduction of FORS, its training and the installed safety equipment we have seen a decrease in vehicle accidents.
By teaming up with FORS we firmly believe we have had a positive impact on not only our company but also the transport industry.
Although we passed our initial bronze audit first time it was clear there were aspects where we could make improvements and this spurred us on to not only meet the Bronze requirements but to surpass them. We took a more proactive approach to industry related safety news as well as training and equipment that would make us a safer company for our employees, customers and the public.
Following our Bronze accreditation we soon enrolled our drivers into the eLearning programme. Having a variety of training sessions available when we wanted them was beneficial to the company and helped us improve our drivers knowledge and awareness.
‘The range of easy to use eLearning modules has helped educate and raise vital awareness not only to our driving staff but to our operation staff.’ Gareth Johnson – Director
Following on from the safety procedures and policies in place we retro fitted all vehicles with four ways camera systems to complement the side proximity sensors and audible turning alarms already fitted to our fleet. These new safety features have had a positive impact on our accident rate which benefits the company as insurance premiums are reduced but more importantly gives us piece of mind that our drivers are equipped with the best safety equipment possible allowing us a safer journey.
‘Achieving Gold ensures we meet the highest level of safety within the transport industry and falling in line with our companies’ safety strategy to help keep Britain’s roads safe.’ Gareth Johnson – Director
We had been Bronze for a couple of years and realised we were already meeting the Silver standard through our proactive safety strategy and therefore acquired Silver accreditation in 2016. At Anthony Robsons we not only strive to be the best we can be but also aim to help raise the industry standards and for that reason we have chosen to go for gold and promote the FORS standard.

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is the first legislation of its kind. All goods vehicles over 1
2 tonnes require a permit to drive into Greater London, including vehicles from outside of the UK, if the vehicle falls short of the required Direct Vision Standard (DVS) star rating.
Enforced by Transport for London (TfL), the legislation is based on a ‘star rating’ indicating how much a driver can see from the cab in relation to other road users.
The vehicle manufacturer will issue a star rating for your vehicle. This rating (0-5) is based on how the vehicle left the production line and will not take into account any aftermarket safety systems that have been fitted.
HGVs that do not meet the minimum requirement of 1 star need to comply with the Safe System which requires the installation of extra devices for indirect vision (similar to FORS & CLOCS specifications) to alert drivers to vulnerable road users who are in a vehicle’s blind spot. Complying with the Safe System will not alter the vehicle’s star rating but will permit you to drive into Greater London.
Camera systems consist of externally fitted cameras and an in-cab monitor to provide more
visual information than conventional mirrors can. These can cover blind spots and, in some cases, full 360° view around the vehicle which aids slow speed manoeuvring.
Camera and monitor systems are widely available from a range of suppliers, we chose the Brigade system for our fleet as we found their products of high quality.
Our system is setup to show the driver the best view on the display depending on the manoeuvre being undertaken. For example when the vehicle is in reverse the rear camera is automatically displayed.
